We all knew it was only a matter of time. But we never thought her death would be written and shot in such a surprising, come-out-of-nowhere way. In a matter of seconds, Shannon went from happy and secure to joining her brother in the afterlife.
Just like Shannon, Libby was always sort of a "nothing" character. That is, aside from her brief romantic fling with Hurley. However, it was just this fling that signaled to us that she was doomed. In many shows of this kind, a sudden precedence and increased importance of a background character is a sure sign that said character is going to die. This was signaled even clearer by the contrasting scenes in the Hatch with Michael and Ana Lucia and Libby randomly needing to "get a blanket.
Oh man, don't even get us started on Eko's death. This was a darned shame, and it shifted Lost in an unexpected direction. And not necessarily in a good way. It's clear that the writers had big plans for Eko. However, actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje had asked to be written off the show, as he did not enjoy living and working in Hawaii. The showrunners obliged and killed Eko off in the most random, unceremonious way possible.
What a disappointment that was. Sayid was one of the Oceanic Six, who publicly escaped the Island. He reunited with Nadia, but when a hit-and-run driver killed her, Sayid joined Benjamin Linus as a hitman against Widmore to avenge her death.

She was reunited with Sayid when he returned from the Island, and married him; however, she was killed in a hit-and-run soon afterwards, a fact used by Ben Linus to manipulate Sayid into working for him as an assassin.
