Arrive at noon to root on your high school. Food and craft or wares vendors will be onsite outdoors and indoors throughout the fair's five days. Be sure to grab lemonade, funnel cake and something deep-fried while you're there!

Southern New Mexico youth will have the opportunity to have their livestock judged by professionals in the industry with awards handed out over the weekend. Animal categories include swine, market meat goats, dairy cattle, rabbits, Pygmy and dairy goats, yearling horses, market lambs, beef cattle and poultry.

Judging begins Wednesday. The Junior Livestock Sale will be held at 6 p. Friday where scholarships will be awarded. The fair is following current state and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. Attendees will not be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to enter the fairgrounds. Facemasks will be required in indoor spaces, except when eating or drinking.

Use of facemasks outdoors is not required, but encouraged, especially when among a large number of people. The New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque was an immensely popular hit from the outset when it opened in The first fair which opened before New Mexico was even an official state! Business owners knew knew an opportunity when they saw one, and invested heavily. Crowd pleasing trapeze artists and other daredevil acts like parachute jumpers who jumped from hot air balloons -- and even a pool-diving mule -- eventually earned the fair a reputation as being one of the greatest entertainment events in the Southwest.

Entertainment, of course, is still a big draw along with artisans, performers, and food vendors showcasing the state's rich Spanish and Native American heritage and culture.

Not to be outdone by rivals, the New Mexico State Fair also follows an All-American venue featuring livestock shows and exhibits, as well as traditional cooking and gardening competitions.

This year, the full concert and entertainment schedule will be announced over the summer with individual tickets going on sale in late July.
