Dart Gun Hand crafted by Richard. Bar A small metal bar. Location : Milk Barn, Various. Fork A big farming fork.
Golf Club A rusty driver. Ice Axe An ice-axe for industrial use. Mission Knife A big survival knife. Saber A saber used as a house decoration. I cringed a bit as I typed that, but I stand by it. Later in the game the player will be able to buy the magnum and then later the assault rifle gun.
Chances are low that the player will satisfy all the parameters to get the infinite magnum, and the infinite assault rifle isn't available until the epilogue. So if the player DOES get the regular magnum and assault rifle, they will most likely have to regulate ammo usage for the whole game, which is certainly a hassle. There is certainly something to be said for relying on an infinite weapon see both teams' first dozen or so episodes where they relied on their pistol exclusively.
Already, we've seen both team's aversion to the shotgun and it is understandable. There are significant shortcomings if you try to use the shotgun like the SMG you just tucked back into your weapon bag. The spread is so great that you won't hit anything at range, the between shot animation is LOOONG, and you have to reload a lot more. The process to get the infinite shotgun is a pain in the ass and it is underwhelming as a reward for the effort you just put in.
BUT There are situations where using the shotgun is the easiest means for total zombie elimination or possibly avoidance. As it is, many of the zombie encounters are these types of situations. If there is a lone zombie standing out in the open, or standing in a long hallway where other zombies won't be able to Zerg rush you, feel free to throw a wall of lead into them from your SMG and it will be a lot of lead in the last half.
Otherwise, I argue that you should have your shotgun out. The knockdown is the shotgun's number one advantage. If the zombie is on the ground, they can't stick their arm in your mouth. The knockdown not only physically drops them to the ground, but it also interrupts their attack animation, which is especially important when they are about to shoot you. They aren't exactly "spoilers", but just in case beware that I'll mention late-story locations.
In the game there are two main groups of weapons: melee weapons and firearms. The melee weapons usually offer a better alternative to fight, since they are surprisingly more powerful and they can stun enemies more easily than firearms. Some special weapons have are defined as "Infinite". If they are melee weapons, this means that their durability is infinite, and therefore they can't break. If they are firearms, it means that their ammo is infinite, although their magazine is not infinite.
Most of the times the "infinite" version of a firearm will improve the size of its magazine, but there are exceptions. The main "weapon shop" of the game is Panda Bear, which opens in Chapter 07 but is also available remotely from the "Toolbox" menu. There are two big groups of melee weapons: normal and infinite. The "normal" weapons such as Steel Pipe, Shovel, Mission Knife are common weapons used by enemies, scattered around the dungeons, and available for sale even at weird locations such as the food store "Milk Barn".
They are the least useful weapons in the game, and you really won't be using them, let alone look for them; therefore I won't be detailing their stats and position. Wrench Infinite Strength: Medium. Speed: Fast. Range: Short. Location: complete Side Mission No.
Note: best weapon for most of the game. It can easily stun enemies by hitting their upper half quickly and repeatedly. Speed: Very Slow. Range: Long. Note: very powerful, but too slow to be reliable. Really better than the other weapons only against Crawling Shadows. Light Sword Infinite Strength: High. Speed: Slow. Note: good weapon against Crawling Shadows, though by the time you acquire it you probably won't have to fight many more of them. Axe Infinite Strength: High. Note: very mediocre weapon.
Chain Saw Infinite Strength: High. Note: to kill a Shadow with this weapon you need to keep holding A after hitting it until the Shadow is cut in half by the Chainsaw. Given how early it can be obtained, the IAM makes the rest of the game a joke. Thankfully, York does get the chance to purchase a regular Magnum later.
Lilly Ingram has a three party quest line at the Milk Barn which involves York solving a series of puzzles to progress each one. Which coincidentally happens to be the very end of the game! For anyone who wants to wait long enough, Lilly sells said ingredients in Chapter 9.
For completing the quest, York will be rewarded with the Weather Dool— one of the most useful items in the game.
